Another day, another potential suitor for struggling Android game console maker Ouya. The latest scuttlebutt on the matter suggests gaming hardware specialist Razer is in the process of acquiring the fifth most funded Kickstarter of all-time.

Terms of the deal are still being hammered out according to TechCrunch’s sources.

Ouya rose to fame in the summer of 2012 when it raised an impressive $8.6 million on the crowdfunding site. The company added another $15 million round of funding from investors like Kleiner Perkins and Mayfield Fund to support its standalone Android game console. Ouya picked up another $10 million investment from Alibaba earlier this year, reportedly valuing the company in the $60 million to $80 million range.

As is often the case, however, being a pioneer in a particular field means you have to deal with a slew of unforeseen circumstances and ultimately, lots of competition.

GameStick and GamePop quickly emerged as Ouya alternatives before heavyweights like Amazon and Google got involved. More recently, Nvidia announced its Tegra X1-powered Shield console, as did Razer with its Forge TV.

It’s not immediately clear what Razer would want with Ouya although one has to assume that its technology would somehow find its way into the Forge TV or its successor. We’ll keep our ears open and report back as soon as we hear more on the matter.

Streaming purposes? Who knows, whatever they do it would be better than what Ouya initially did.
