It was around this time last year that details about Apple's iPad started leaking heavily, and given the company's annual product updates, it's no surprise that the "iPad 2" is starting to make headlines. DigiTimes reports today that Apple plans to ship three versions of its second-gen iPad, one with only Wi-Fi and two others with UMTS and CDMA connectivity.

The current line includes a Wi-Fi-only model and one that adds UMTS 3G backed by AT&T. Apparently, about 60 to 65% of existing iPad shipments are outfitted with 3G, suggesting that customers desire models with integrated WWAN support. Because of this, Apple is working more closely with carriers such as Verizon, who currently offers the iPad with a MiFi device.

DigiTimes' sources also said that Apple is developing an improved anti-smudge and anti-reflective treatment, which should address a common complaint about the iPad being a fingerprint magnet. Meanwhile, other recent leaks suggest that the iPad 2 will be slightly smaller with a flat back, a new speaker design, split volume controls, and a rear-mounted camera.

DigiTimes noted that Apple plans to gradually stop manufacturing the first-gen iPad soon, while mass production of the second-gen version will begin toward the second half of January. The site's sources expect Apple to begin selling the updated slate sometime between June and July, which is a couple of months later than this year's April launch for the original iPad.

I feel sorry for you poor ****s. Stuck with EvDo while the rest of the world has completely demolished it.

Ahhh, "an unnamed source", the old "one" with today's rumored features and a new vague time frame. Apple didn't reveal any details, of course it won't until it makes a formal announcement sometime in the new year. Well, we can be sure there will be a new iPad within the next 12 months. Other than that, it's just this week's click-bait.
For featuring 3G connectivity, sounds should be under consideration, more 3G connectivity options for users is what looking forward to I believe. Though now the wifi can be turned to 3G with some apps like Wifi.

This does seem like a very realistic and reliable source but for now no one bar apple and their providing companies know what is happening so no sources are defined yet as real, one site said there was three models of the new iPad to be released next year which seems unlikely but we don't know yet. The large gap in the bottom left corner of the case does look a bit suspicious, why would they take that much space off of an iPad? It looks ugly!!

Now if we could have the International Telecommunications Union step in and enforce what is 3g, 3g+, and 4g, we all could understand how fast a network these are going to run on. According to the ITU parameters, T-Mobile's claim of 4g is actually 3g+.

Oh yeah more enforcement by a regulatory union because everybody is just to dumb to figure it out themselves. Great idea genius

Hmmm, "smaller and with camera" sounds like they're trying to catch up to Samsung's Galaxy Tab!
