Russia is taking further steps towards a Splinternet

LMAO. I thought the internet was supposed to be for everyone. This definitely hurts the Russian population but the internet has become mostly social media clout chasers and politics, it might be a good thing for them to reset mentally. Everyone starts out by saying they want to be inclusive but end up wanting to separate their group from a group they don't like.

Reading the fresh comments make me think that people should research the subject of Russian troll factories. This is not a joke, they exist and I'm pretty sure this site is affected too. Half truths combined with arrogant behavior seems to be the perfect mix that actually works to confuse and spread mistrust.
The internet wizards warned to not feed the trolls ages ago, but we see now how slowly people learn across the internet.

You can usually spot them through their characteristic geopolitical word salad. This site is riddled with them.

I would still like to see Russia & China isolated from the web for a year and see just how much less hacking and ransoms were eliminated. It could be used as effective leverage against countries that would require them to police their own users or risk being cut off from the rest of the world. In either case it could be a win/win for everyone, except the offenders.

Well, I gotta "disappear" as you say. I've been up my 16+ hours for the day. I'll be back to respond if my post doesn't get deleted for "mis information". Hehehe, you gotta love that.
When you have some evidence... I'm all ears :)
You should know this however, as you have spouted this nonsense on this site for awhile... and when asked to provide evidence, you either vanish, move the goalposts, or simply disappear from the thread...
I believe I called this :)

I had to block the entire Ukraine in the past because of their hackers besieging my blog.

The world's internet is already heavily censored and restricted. Not only by China and Russia but by many other countries whose governments have decided to keep certain other country's news feeds out of their backyard - or have been completely appalled by social media and keep it censored. Not to mention video games which are prohibited.

These sanctions to block out the rest of the world are exactly what authoritarianism LOVES.

North Koreans, for example, are purposefully kept from WWW access simply because if they saw what they were missing they'd overthrow their government.

Being in such a rush to sanction and cut off Russia only strengthens the people's resolve against the west as now they point the finger of blame at the west rather than their own leaders.

Short sighted thinking at its worst.
Ah, the unhackable Windows XP guy strikes again with his theories about how crippling sanctions will actually make Russia prosper. Alright then, nothing to see here, move along.

In other news, Roskomnadzor has already been hacked by Anon.

People itt pretending like China didn't already effectively do this.

This thread is proof positive that one big happy internet was unsustainable. Cyber-balkanization will continue and will also occur in the West as more and more people with opinions that have been thrust out of the Overton Window by the fiat declaration of the media are marginalized. If anything, it's already been well underway in the West, you just haven't noticed (Gab, Odysee, et al).

What an incredibly ironic statement from the article writers fingers. So, in the dictionary under the definition of "the Internet" we would read something along the lines of: "Used to share information and fight disinformation...and connecting with people who have a different view of the world". That's the definition of the Internet now, huh?

I don't think the author said that was the definition of the Internet. He said that the Internet is a tool used to perform these tasks or functions. Does the Internet not allow for sharing information? By having information at your fingertips, can you not rebut misleading information being propagated on the Internet? And, can you not connect with people around the world with differing viewpoints, such as Techspot?

Comments like that just make my head spin. First off, this new buzzword, "misinformation", that everybody loves to bandy about these days is nothing more than a way to discount, ironically, anybody's opinion that doesn't line up with your world "truths".

The word has been overused to the point of being a cliche. When I read an article on the Internet or watch an Interview on the news and I hear that somebody is spreading "misinformation" I immediately think, okay, they must have a different "viewpoint" than the accuser.

Depends on what they are saying. If they are saying the world is flat, yes, that's disinformation. If they are saying chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla, while you may agree, that's just an opinion.

This overused new buzzword, "misinformation", only became mainstream popular when vaccine manufacturers came up with the idea to shut down anybody speaking out against the dangers of vaccines. Especially, experimental vaccines. Understandably so, it's hurts their bottom line. This stuff couldn't be more obvious to those paying attention.

Actually, it's not a new buzzword. People have been talking about this for years, in relation to the media. It certainly came to the forefront when Trump was in the White House because there was a lot of misinformation being thrown around by both parties. That's when online sites like FB and Twitter began to step in, rightly or wrongly.

However, that could accelerate the Russian government’s plan to create a “sovereign Internet” and fundamentally change the way Russians connect to and access information from the rest of the world.

It's the new Berlin Wall, or rather the Berlin Firewall.

You can change "pretty sure" to absolutely certain brother. They don't last long in any thread, but they sure try to push Russian propaganda.

You will know they are there as soon as you click to open a topic. They have a certain stench, a lot like a porta potty.

Dude, you forgot to use most of the favorite right wing nutjob buzzwords like woke, fake news, etc. Your post is hilarious and it belongs on Truth Social or something like InfoWars. hahahaha
You do this for a living, huh ?
I see a trend of "paid trolls" these days.

"...The Russian Ministry for Digital Technology, Communication and Mass Media has maintained that there are no plans to disconnect Russia from the rest of the Internet...."

If there is one thing countries around Russia over centuries learned is to never trust a word of the regime which is running this country.

1. Brezhnev 1986: we don't plan to invade Afghanistan...
2: Putin 2022: I don't want to invade Ukraine...
3. Lavrov 2022: Ukraine invaded Russia...
4. Lavrov 2022: Russia don't plan to invade other countries... (both statements yesterday in Antalya)
5. Roskomnadzor 2022: we don't plan to disconnect from the global internet. Yeap in a year they'll be.

Sad for awesome folks living there, I hope they'll manage to escape this Gulag before its too late. So in couple months we'll have two big concentration camps in the World. Xitler's China and Putler's Russia. And who knows, in 50 years perhaps China will stretch from Belarus to Vladivostok. Xitler is not stupid, he will enslave Russia economically and then simply buy them out, because weak economically Russia is also good for Chinese industry. Almost like roles has been reversed from 1949 by 180 degrees.

I hope that before start of thermonuclear war Russian people will find Putler and rest of his "court". Then they'll take them to the monument dedicated to the Conquerors of Space and hang them there. It's 110m tall so it should be fitting warning for next one who will try to pull stunt like this.

Putler is brainless being. He had golden goose. He could sit and just cut out the coupons from all oil/gas wealth for next century. Instead he decided to start world invasion tour. Most funny thing is that despite Ukraine being turned into mountain of rubble still Ukraine Hryvnia is 4x more valuable than Russian Ruble (Rubble?).
Typical enemy of Russia's speech.

Typical enemy of Russia's speech.

According to Putin, the entire world is Russia's enemy.. For example, a country with a Jewish actor/comedian for a president, is targeted as needing, "de-Nazification".

The Berlin Wall was left up for 40 years after WWI.

Putin and his oligarchs have siphoned off most of the profits from Russia's oil wealth.

So, the truth of the matter is, the world doesn't hate "Russians", but your leader is an exponentially avaricious, stone cold, murderous a**hole, with paranoid delusions of grandeur.

Now, answer this question, "would I be allowed to say that out loud in Russia"?

(I think not. And certainly not without being arrested).

The United States is so divided and unstable that even on the world stage our allies cannot depend on us and our foes know that if they wait it out they'll get a chance, and boy did they get it. Biden is quite obviously in cognitive decline and Kamala might not be in decline, but she's not much better when you consider how ill prepared and, well just how dumb she sounds whenever she speaks. Our current administration's focus since day one in office has been "social justice", "equity", and all the buzz words of the far left agenda. The people that have been put into high positions are no better than Biden himself, they are ill prepared and were appointed to the position based on some cross-sectionality rather than experience and knowledge. They are especially lacking in wisdom. I really don't know how we are going to make it through the next three years with Biden (supposedly) at the helm.

Fresh outta oven: Morgan Stanley estimates Russia to become insolvent by April 15th. But I guess QuantumDude knows better.

For the "elite", freedom of speech is a problem. They found a solution : censorship and stopping worldwide communication so that no one could find information. Western countries do it, China does it, Russia does it. Everything shows us that it's a global plan.

" YouTube, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, announced on Friday it would block access to “Russian state media” channels across the globe and block all monetization on its platform inside Russia, citing the conflict in Ukraine. "

wait... where is the freedom of expression ?
I have the impression that it is the "west" which is pushing Russia to cut internet into two, differently from what this article seems to imply.
