Several BSODs within past couple weeks...

No, this time it is another 0xC2 error:BAD_POOL_CALLER

A kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this.

The driver cited is ntkrnlmp.exe which is a core OS driver so that doesn't really help.

Question: Can you list all the things you have attempted to rectify the matter? For instance, how long did you run MemTest? What drivers did you install? Did you do a search to make sure all AVG has been fully uninstalled?

Here are the things I have tried to see if they would fix the problem. I have used only one stick of RAM (1 512MB stick). I have uninstalled AVG, and made sure no folders or registry entries exist anymore. I have re-installed my Nvidia drivers. I have flashed my BIOS. I have reset my BIOS. I ram MemTest for 3 passes, and it came up with no error.

The only drivers I have installed are:
Nvidia
XP Sound Drivers (Sound Blaster Live!)
My Printer Driver

I have always installed the same programs and drivers whenever I reload my PC and have never had a problem. I have not upgraded any hardware of software as far as I can remember. My last hardware upgrade was my Sound Card in November of 2007, and software was December of 2007 (Nvidia Driver). And as you know, I haven't been having any problems until just a couple weeks ago.

Also, I don't know if this is relevent or not, but MemTest only detected 512MB of my RAM when I had 1GB (2x 512MB) installed on my system until recently. I don't know if this matters or not but I just wanted to let you know.

Try running your one RAM stick in other slots and tell us if it is recognized by your system.

Does your BIOS at start-up recognize 1 gig when you run two sticks (1 gig)?

Also, MemTest needs to run a minimum of 7 passes.

Yes, they are recognized. I only have 2 slots.

Yes, my BIOS has recognized my 1gig everytime, except for that one time I mentioned above where it only recognized 1 512MB stick. Then I restarted and it worked again.

Ohh, I didn't know it needed to run that long. I guess I will do that overnight, being it took over 2 hours to run 3 passes.

Also, one more question. Should I run it with both sticks in or one at a time, and then alternate slots?

Should I run it with both sticks in or one at a time, and then alternate slots
Most users will run Memtest with both sticks in
Then if they receive any error, remove one (leaving only one installed)
And re-test again.

I think Route44 is also trying to confirm your Ram channel on the M/b too.
So you may want to test each slot with one ram card installed only.

Hi,

I ordered and installed new ram the other day and reloaded my whole pc again. I now have a fresh copy of XP on it, and still received the problem. I tried it with one stick only, then both. I still got a blue screen. I am going to send them back because I know now for a fact, that the RAM wasn't the problem. I then put back my old RAM and received another blue screen. Can you check out my minidumps?

0xD1 which cites the avgtdi.sys driver which is part of the process AVG Network connection watcher belongs to the software AVG Network Redirector.

0xC2: BAD_POOL_CALLER
A kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this.

The driver cited for this error is avg7rsxp.sys which is a driver for the the process AVG Resident Anti-Virus Shield belongs to the software AVG Anti-Virus System or AVG7 Resident Driver XP. Many people who post here have had issues with this driver.

The third dump was another 0xC2 error and the driver cited was a core Windows OS driver and in the mix was AVG.

* I suggest either updating your AVG to the latest or visit their forums and tell them of the information you have gathered and exact errors and drivers.

ok, I completely reloaded my computer and didn't install AVG at all this time. I used a completely different antivirus (McAfee). I know that this one is alright because I never had problems with it before. I have been using it for a long time now (except recently). So, I loaded some of my games, the nvidia drivers, and some games. Of course, I got another blue screen. Do you mind checking this one out for me?

BugCheck 10000050, {bf7dc1b4, 0, bfadac0e, 0}
Could not read faulting driver name
Probably caused by : nv4_disp.dll

As kimsland lists it is 0x50 error and the probable cause is nv4_disp.dll driver.

Try the following:

1. Uninstall everything that has to do with your vdeo card and that includes folders.

2. Download the latest drivers for your card to your desktop.

3. Reboot into Safe Mode.

4. When the Windows Wizard pops up to install drivers cancel.

5. Disable anti-virus (by the way, AVG is better than McAffee).

6. Install video drivers.

7. Reboot.

Just out of curiosity, is your RAM compatible (make that is) with your ASUS board?

Oh Asus

Please press the green button, and select all your drivers to update

You need to do this here, and again at the Asus site. Until I work out the exact link! (anyone?)

My computer was crash free for a while, but has started again.

My computer just got a BSOD while I was on my desktop in a program called Steam. My games are continually crashing and freezing too. Anyway, here is the minidump for my latest BSOD.

The only programs installed are:

Steam
The Ship
Crazy Machine II
McAfee
Ad-Aware 2008
CCleaner
Auslogics Disk Defrag
Auslogics Registry Defrag
Firefox 3
ThunderBird 2
Adobe Flash Player etc. (other programs required to access internet pages)

I have used these programs before on my computer and several others without issues. In fact, I have just loaded another computer with the latest NVidia drivers (the ones I am using) and the same programs and he is having absolutely no problems at all.

Both PCs are running XP Professional SP3.

Error: 0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER

A kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this.

This can also be due to driver attempting an IRQL it has no business doing. A whole lot of your process symbols are not able to load.

The thing is your minidump cited a core Windows driver which is too general to help us. Something is messing with the driver pool.

Question: How long have you had SP3 installed, i.e., was it installed before or after you gained stability the last time? Have these BSODs come after installation?

SP3 has been installed for my last two loads. The first load just got a blue screen the other day. That load was running SP3 for months without a problem. The next load is SP3 which I just loaded a day or two ago, and started to recieve BSODs right away.

I'm not sure if it is a program that is installing itself that is all of a sudden causing instability. As I said, all of a sudden my games are crashing and freezing too, which I've never had a problem with before.

EDIT: I've recieved two more BSODs just now. Bugcheck 0x1000008e

In the event viewer it said "The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "

Here is the second one. Bugcheck 0x000000fe

"The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

In the bluescreen it said BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

Here's the new minidump.

Hey guys,

Well, it turned out to be my sound card that caused all these problems. My father (who works with computers) was puzzled by the BSODs and has never seen so many in his life. So he continued to suggest things until he suggested the sound card. It also fixed another problem I was having where every once in a while my computer would not POST, therefore not boot at all. On top of that now I didn't have a sound card and my onboard sound was fried. It turned out that the jack in the back of my computer was the problem. So he fixed that too. Thanks Dad!

I also reloaded (hopefully for the last time in a while) my PC with XP and only SP2. It is running crash free as we speak.

I just want to say thanks again for all the time and effort everyone has put towards finding the solution to my problem. If I ever have any trouble again I will be sure to come here first.

Also, the forum wouldn't let me edit my last post so, I just created a new one.

SP3 was not the fault

Route44 was right, it was the PCI sound card

Thanks for the update
