Update Adobe Flash Player
Download the Latest Adobe Flash for Firefox and IE Without Any Extras: http://www.404techsupport.com/2010/...-flash-for-firefox-and-ie-without-any-extras/

==================================================

1. Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

2. Now, we need to remove old Java version and its remnants...

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it.
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Do NOT post JavaRa log.

Your computer is clean

1. We need to reset system restore to prevent your computer from being accidentally reinfected by using some old restore point(s). We'll create fresh, clean restore point, using following OTL script:

Run OTL

  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:

Code:
:OTL
:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[emptyjava]
[CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
[Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Post resulting log.

2. Now, we'll remove all tools, we used during our cleaning process

Clean up with OTL:

  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

If you still have any tools or logs leftover on your computer you can go ahead and delete those off of your computer now.

3. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

4. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC) weekly.

8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): https://www.techspot.com/downloads/4898-secunia-personal-software-inspector-psi.html. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

10. (Windows XP only) Run defrag at your convenience.

11. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

12. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html

13. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

Computer is doing well. It does seem a bit sluggish, but it was getting that way before the Virus hit. I think a Defrag will probably help that issue. If it continues after I finish the last few steps, I'll post back and see if you have any knowledge of what could be causing it. I was having a bit of trouble getting Java installed. My IE browser kept saying that there was a problem with the Webpage and couldn't refresh it. I normally use Google Chrome though, and was able to update Java that way. Hope thats not a problem since I was using a different Browser. If I click that link and check the Java version from Chrome, it says it is updated. However if I click that same link from IE and check the version, it says Java is not installed on my computer. Is this going to be an issue for me later on? Like I said, I normally use Google Chrome anyway so I dont think it will, but I just want to be sure.

Here is the log you asked for. I am now moving on to removing the tools with OTL.

However if I click that same link from IE and check the version, it says Java is not installed on my computer. Is this going to be an issue for me later on?
Well, see if it'll cause any other problems.

For now....

Way to go!!

Good luck and stay safe :)

Can't thank you enough for your help! Doesn't appear the Java/IE issue is going to cause any problems. I'm all finished up. Going to defrag now.

Thanks again!!!!

Not sure if this is related..

Recently, I was reminded of the game website, Pogo. I've been trying to play games throug the website, but there has been a problem with my Java. I remembered having the Java issue back when this stuff was going on, but it never affected me until now. Anyway, I completely uninstalled all Java from my computer. It was still not removed properly. When I would go to re-install, it would say its already installed on my system.

In my Add/Remove programs list, I have 3 Java entries. Java 6 update 7, Java 6 update 22, and Java 7 update 5 (most current). The icon's next to these listings are not the Java Icon, but a Windows program icon with the little blue square on the left side of the icon. (can't seem to point out a specific example of the type of icon) Anyway, for the 2 Java 6 versions, I get the error "Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". For Java 7, it starts the uninstall, gets to the end of "Gathering required information" then the green progress bar rolls back and the whole uninstaller disappears.

I have done a ton of Google searching on this. I've used JavaRA, CC Cleaner, I've searched for every last Java file on the system, which there were only a couple, and deleted them as well. Even after doing everything, I still get the same error when trying to Install a fresh version of Java, that it's already installed. The Java RA log says "There was an error removing C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-ABCDEFFDCBA}. The error returned was 124." and repeats the same error multiple times, starting from CAFEEFAC-0016-0000 all the way up to CAFEEFAC-0016-0022.

The weird part to me, is that I have followed that path. If I go to C:\Program Files (x86), there is not a Mozilla Firefox folder.

Nothing has worked! I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Any ideas?
