Lost sound so reinstalled drivers, but Win Media Player (wmp) didn'r work. Tried reinstalling latest version for win2k sp4 - still no go. So reinstalled win2k as a repair of original and tried to apply SP4 to it. Crashes reporting winlogon.exe error, as does SP2 and SP3. It happens when the patch tries to write the registry in preparation of patching process. The blue screen reports

the window logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly
with a status of 0 x c0000005 (0 x 00000000 0 x 00000000)
The system has been shut down.
There are no virii or spyware according to ZoneAlarm and checked with PC Tools and AVG. So what's amiss and how do I cure it. - and having got back to SP4, what's the matter with wmp and how do I cure that...
