[Solved] System check virus/malware

    Windows 7 64 bit.

    Last night my Computer caught the latest "System check" Malware. All files on my computer appeared to be gone. Actually they were just hidden, and indexed searching was turned off, adding to the illusion that everything was gone. A program called system check opened itself and told me things like:

    "Hard drive clusters are partly damaged"
    "Windows OS can't detects a free hard drive space. hard drive error."

    Then started scanning for "problems" which after finding it asked me to buy a full version to remove them. I googled this program and it is a malware scam. In addition it launches a bunch of popups and trying to open the task manager made the blue screen come up.

    I have run several programs trying to get rid of this before coming to this forum including tdsskiller and combofix. I will include the combofix log, which deleted three things that it found.

    I have all my stuff backed up and am willing to revert it to factory settings if I can't get rid of it. I'm worried though because other people with this issue have discovered that it creates a partition on the hard drive, so I don't know if it would still be around even if I did a revert.

    Before I can do combofix it wants me to disable my antivirus software. I got rid of all but Vipre, but how do I disable it? I'm in safe mode because normal mode is unstable.

    It will freeze and crash and generally seems unstable, whereas it ran like new before. Also I uses resource monitor to determine that teatimer.exe was constantly doing stuff, a process that I have never seen active before. I have heard that malware often runs under the guise of teatimer.exe.

    The teatimer.exe stopped coming up and everything appears normal. All the same would you recommend restoring to factory settings? I can't really tell if it's completely gone.

    If the computer behaves normally there is no reason for formatting.

    We just need to run some more checks.

    Update MBAM, run "Quick scan" in normal mode and post the log.

    Then....

    Download OTL to your Desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
