    Hey cpc2004,

I’m guessing you are getting a bit pissed with this problem, as am I. I went to the MS site and following that advice downloaded the listed Intel tool. Sadly that didn’t work as it is not applicable for P4’s apparently – see www.remarked.net/wtf/wtf10.jpg

    And from the site:

The Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility has the ability to determine the frequency of each processor in a multiprocessor system. Any multiprocessor menu or toolbar selections are disabled in platforms with operating systems other than Windows XP, or Windows 2000. The application also includes an indicator for which processor is currently being tested.
    This applies to:
    Intel® Celeron® Processor
    Intel® Pentium® II Processor
    Intel® Pentium® II Xeon™ Processor
    Intel® Pentium® III Processor
    Intel® Pentium® Pro Processors
    Intel® Pentium® Processor
    Intel® Pentium® Processor with MMX™ Technology
    Intel® Processor Frequency ID Utility
    Mobile Intel® Pentium® II Processors
    Mobile Intel® Pentium® III Processors
    Mobile Intel® Pentium® Processors

I guess we are running out of ideas with this….

    But again as always, thanks

After further analysis, all the bugcheck 50 have the same symptom. The stack trace of third entry shift one byte to right hand side. As the kenel stack trace belongs to windows kernel and it is unlikely it is a software error. I think it is hardware error at the cache memory of the CPU. In addition your XP also crashes with bugcheck 7F because 4 bytes overlaid at system service table. The XP system service table is most active XP data area and it will be kept at cache memory to enhance performance.

The only thing I don't understand why the failing instruction address is consistent. Howeve faulty CPU is the most reasonable answer of your problem.

Just for fun have you gone into the bios and changed your memory speeds to something a bit slower? I was having strange BSOD's and was ready to reformat. After slowing the memory a little my problems went completely away. Just a thought. If your computer is a "brand name", you may not be able to access these settings in bios.

    Hi...

gwhite, thanks I will check that out. cpc2004, thanks for all your help, you have been great. I'm trying to find a CPU so I can test my system, may take me a couple of weeks. I'll come back with the results..

    Cheers

Do you have any update of the problem? I have a similar problem at another forum with 4 bytes overlaid at Windows System table which is similar to your problem but at different location.

I've been having nearly the same issue. But I have to add it only happens with NERO. I use Shrink DVD and Alcohol 120 as well as DVD43 abnd many other programs with no problems at all. I have swapped memory all of which are good. Swapped even the CPU and still same problem.
One thing that has changed in my system is that I upgraded my video card from an ATI X800 Pro to an X 850 XT PE and do not recall having problems prior to this.. My DVD burner is NEC 3500 AG and am thinking of swapping it to see if it may be part of the problem.
I really believe it is NERO speciofic, No other progrma causes this crash.. By the way no blue screen when it crashes just a restart for me... I do have NAV and ZAPro running. If I disable ether... same problem. I happens in Nero Burn, Nero showtime....Nero Smart start will get me going bui the moment the DVD player needs to be accessed. BOOM. Restart.

Do you have any update of the problem? Your version of Norton Antivirus has a lot of weired problem. You had better de-install Norton Antivirus and install NOMAD32. Maybe it can resolve the problem

Here is what Nero Support said!
    hank you for your e-mail.

Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder.
An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures.
Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the Manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorders firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.

For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorders firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...

To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero InfoTool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.

For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
    'Start->All Programs->Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
    'Start->All Programs->Ahead Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

Once Nero InfoTool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.

    Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at ones own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."

There are drivers left on your system from another burning software.
Please use the driver clean tool in order to disable these drivers.
    Download cleanpack.zip from ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/cleanpack.zip
Extract the zipped files onto your hard disk using WinZip or WinRar.
You should now have two files: Driver-CleanTool.exe and RegistryChecker.exe.
First, run Driver-CleanTool.exe by double-clicking it.
Driver-CleanTool will deactivate drivers that caused problems in Nero in the past.
Confirm the deactivation of the drivers displayed in order to prevent known driver conflicts from reoccurring in the future.
These drivers also exist, with values, in the registry in Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
In order to ensure that these are also deactivated you will need to run the RegistryChecker file.

The Registry Checker will run very quickly. It is likely that you won't see any action after double clicking the file.
Note: Running the Registry Checker is not necessary for Windows ME, 98SE, 98 or 95.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

I have used Nero for a number of years and although I love the program , it has always been very sensitive to any other authoring software on the same machine even software that may have been loaded in the past and has been uninstalled.
I would try the trouble shooting Nero recommends , especially clearing out old drvers left lying around your machine.
Also check the property sheets for Nero . In particular the files used for temporary storage of Data writes.Make sure these files are emptied after large writes .I do not use Windows TEMP file , it is governed by amount of Free space and most people do not move it off of the system partition , which can fill with Page files, system restore, system find etc.
Lastly DVD writing can be affected by other running processes . Things like TSR's and Anti virus can trigger events , if this occurs in the middle of a write it can fail. Windows XP writing software can also cause this issue.Turn these items off and test with each.
Before you go off buying new hardware and ripping out parts it might save you to see if you can find the conflict in the software.

    Same Problem

    Hi,

    What burner(s) are you using?
Do you have other software that uses your burners which can buirn? Like Itunes??

I've got this rebooting problem a dozen time since last week. Most of the times my TDK burner was not attached. I use iTunes, but never burned a single disc with it...I mainly use Nero.
