T2642 motherboard upgrades

Hi, I have an Emachines T2642 computer, with which I modified by adding a PCI Geforce FX 5200, another 512mb pc2700 ram stick and a Pentium 4@3.06ghz.

When I originally bought this computer it came with an Imperial-gv motherboard, (which has no AGP slots) a 40gb harddrive, a celeron@2.6ghz, 250watt powersupply, and pc2100 256mb stick.

Anyway, I would like to replace my existing motherboard with one that has an AGP slot, and without having to replace my processor.

All responses appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Techspot!

Anyways, did you not want to replace the celeron? Then why did you buy the Pentium? I'm a bit confused. I'm sure the other members here will gladly help you.

You most likely need something like this.

Situation: I do not feel like making the transition from my high-end socket 478 processor. I always wanted to replace my celeron which I did. The main reason why I want to switch motherboards is for the AGP slot, plus I do not think that my current mainboard is utilizing the full potential of my processor.

Also, how does that mainboard stack up against these other mainboards?

I actually own the gigabyte 8IG1000MK, and like it. I just wasn't aware it was still available. I'd say it's comparable to the asus I previously linked to.
The asrock doesn't look too bad either, and has good reviews, but I'm not sure if asrock is a reliable brand...

Also, do you know how good the visiontek 1300 pci 256mb is? Would that would be a more price-efficient alternative, rather than spending 85$ for a new mainboard and 150$ for a 7600gt agp (if it comes out)?

Thanks,

Hmm... an "Elite Crap Systems" motherboard, and even better, it features a SIS chipset. ;) I think the x1600pro is a nice card though.

I thought ECS was supposed to be a reputed company as far as mobos are concerned. Oh well, maybe not. Thanks for "enlightening" me vnf4ultra :p

Some of ecs's newer stuff, like their kn1 extreme, are supposedly ok products, but I think some of their previous products were kind of "shoddy" IMO. Maybe some other TS users have some "insight" into this.

Ive tried swapping out the motherboards in 3 2642's because the were damaged by faulty power supplies and the Restore Disks would never work. Even on boards with the same 845 chipset.

Chessmaster, mother board replacement

chessmaster, if you changed out your MB, I am looking for a 845GV mother board from a e-machine, it is a Imperial GV from a T2542, T2596, T2642, T2682, T2692, T2792, T2882, or W2646. These models all had bad Power supplies which fried MBs. if ayone can help I'd be thankful, also have a T2742 with bad board, interchangable models are T2796, T2798, T2824, T2885. If you have one of these you should change out power supplies if they are Bestec brand.

I am looking to replace my motherboard as well (for an emachine T2642). Can anyone let me know if the Compaq 283983-001 Intel 845 Socket 478 mATX Motherboard should work?
