TechSpot IRC Channel

In my opinion even if it is an unofficial channel, still members have to behave themselves properly!
Members will behave themselves properly, thats why there are ops. But the unofficial part keeps 3ds from being directly responsible from any legal action that may come of an 8 year old learning the "S" word.

Managed to connect to the server, but not the channel...
Do I have to get my name auth'd?
Not completely clear on this process...

Yes check out the posts at the beginning of this thread. I think Didou explains it fairly well in there how to register, if not, post back and we'll get you set up:)

i can use PIRCH for this IRC chat thing, right?
but there's no "starchat" in the server listing.

Can you manually add it? I had to do that on my linux system.

just type /server reality.no.eu.starchat.net:6667 - should work for you
then type /join #3DSpotlight

should work

not sure. the thing is that i'm not familiar with any IRC. maybe i'll take a look... hmm...

Hope you can figure it out EASILY that is. It would be good to talk to someone new.:D
not that the people in there now are not fun to talk to, but new people are always nice.
And I welcome Vehementi to the channel

to be marked as away just type:
/away <insert message here>
and when you're back, type /away again...

And just a little reminder on how you get authorized...
/nickserv identify <insert password here>

I dropped in and all of you were sleeping

Pretty cool channel. Someone should post this up as front page news. I didn't even know the channel was up and running.... but I guess it's just my fault for not reading this thread. :p

i'ev been thinking...

i've been thinking about all this...
i think if it's posted on the front page, people may think it's an official channel. they'll think it's some sort of live tech support or sth (as some people may think the mods are tech supports).
if it is actually posted on the front page, then it should be stated clearly that it's not an official 3DS channel, nor is it a live tech support. just where the members hang out.

Yes, and then it would also be bound by the same sort of rules as the TOS here.

The freedom from a lot of the restrictive protocols of the forums of one of the channel's strengths already.

Let's leave it an unofficial channel, I say.

Well that isn't our fault.....now is it??:p

Just kidding, glad to see you decided to stop by. Hope to see you on there sometime, when I am not sleeping of course:)

As far as the idea of posting something about the channel on the frontpage of 3DS, I don't like the thought that people would come in only to talk about problems. I enjoy our conversations all the time, even if they are pretty dumb most of the time :). But they are fun none the least. I don't think bringing serious hard core problems in there would go over too well. I like sitting in there just to relax.

Yeah... that's true. I would imagine a lot of newbies would come in and start asking away. So let's just limit that to only me who's allowed to bug ya with my computer problems in the channel. :p ;)

We've allready been visited by quite a few "characters" in there without having the channel on the frontpage, just imagine what would happen if we did put it there :D

PS. Last night Phantazmm actually took his mask off. I almost fainted ;)

Hehe... Last night, quite a lot happened.... And I don't think that chat session would've been appropriate for everyone...

So Let's keep the channel of the front page...

Its okay every once in a while, but not all the time:D. That would just get way out of hand
But your problems are always welcome :haha:

Now I am mad that I missed out on that conversation. I am there for a bunch of them, and YES they are usually pretty good, now I'm gonna have to ask one of you next time I see you on IRC what it was all about, if you don't tell me then :punch:

/edit: well it appears that the punch icon doesn't work. Maybe look into fixing that.

tell you what, i'm ALWAYS missing the conversations. since the time difference is so great, i'm getting used to seeing everyone sleeping or going to klass! :haha:
i think the time difference between Siam and the UK is about 9 hrs. and 12 hrs with the US...

If you've got a permanent connection, just stay in the channel and log what happens...

If not, get an eggdrop bot and get it to log everything that happens in the channel... (Note, you'll need access to a server to do that)

Argh! Come one guys, I always log on in there and there's noone there that's actually is there! We need publicity on this thing :p

First, choose your nick in mIRC.
Then log on to the server.

When you've logged on type the following:
/msg nickserv register <insert email here> <insert password here>
then push enter :)

You will then be sent an email with a confirmation code (just copy paste) and you can start using the channel... (You'll get a confirmation after you've sent the activation code)

So let's say I'd wanted to register the nick totalnewbie: I'd set it as the nick in mIRC (or whatever IRC client you want to use), and log on...

Then I'd type:
/msg nickserv register totalnewbie kill_loosers@hotmail.com newbiesunite

I'll then get a message telling me an activation code has been sent.
Checking my hotmail account I'll find something like:
/msg NickServ ACTIVATE 1235978314
which i copy into mIRC...
I'll then receive a message saying my account has been activated and what password I'd chosen...

NOTE: Sometimes the services can be down, which means that you won't be able to register... If it happens, wait an hour and try again..

Hope this helps :)

This is how you do it! If this doesn't work, let me know and I'll explain it again, maybe in a little easier detail. And if all else fails, reread this whole thread. There have been quite a few questions about this.
