Regardless of the fact that I am a comlete novice, I'll be diving recklessly into my friend's thinkpad 600 to replace the cmos battery. I know. It's not scud defusing. But I don't know anything. Can any one tell me where I can get (a) basic instructions and repair techniques / dos and don'ts specific to laptop tinkering, as well as (b) free Thinkpad technical documentation. I mainly just need to be able to get to the mobo and change the battery without ****ing anything up.

    Any and all help appreciated...

It should just be a matter of removing one of the covers on the bottom of the laptop. I think the cmos battery on those is next to the memory..could be wrong though, It should just be a matter of popping or sliding it out, and putting a new one in!
