In a nutshell: Hard as it is to believe, we’re only a couple of weeks away from the end of the 2010s. To mark the occasion, Time magazine has compiled its ten best gadgets of the decade list, which includes three Apple products and the Nintendo Switch.

In Time’s list of the “most important and influential gadgets” from the last ten years, Apple is the only company to appear more than once. Not too surprisingly, the 2010 iPad gets a spot. While it wasn’t the first tablet, it did make the form factor popular. The publication writes that the slate resulted in a “cultural shift for personal computing, and set the tone for the next decade of portable devices.”

The two other honored Apple devices are its Apple Watch, which has long remained the best-selling smartwatch on the market, and its AirPods, which might be a slightly controversial choice.

One welcome entry is the Nintendo Switch. It’s easy to forget, but there was quite a bit of skepticism surrounding the hybrid console before release—it even caused the company’s share price to fall seven percent. But the Switch has shipped 41.67 million units as of September 2019, surpassing the lifetime sales of the Wii U, Nintendo GameCube, and Nintendo 64. It’s also set to be the best-selling console of 2019.

Other entries include the Tesla Model S, the electric car that showed just how fast and cool EVs can be. There’s also the Raspberry Pi, which has sold over 25 million units, and Google’s Chromecast.

The rest of the list is made up of the Amazon Echo—another product that many believed would fail but now boasts over 100 million sales—and the Xbox Adaptive Controller, which makes playing titles much easier for those with limited mobility.

What gadgets from the 2010s would you have included on the list? Let us know in the comments below.

Air Pods? Really? Wireless earbuds are one of the 10 best gadgets invented in the past 10 years? Must have been a bad decade...

And while I applaud the Xbox Adaptive Controller, I suspect this was included for political correctness...
Also, this article failed to mention the DJI Phantom - the most popular drone around - even though it DID make the Time list (it was #5)!

And while they haven't been perfected, I'd choose the driverless car over the Tesla any day of the week...

Really? The Apple Watch? I don't see how you can list any smartwatch given the general public reaction has been "meh".

This is not a top sellers list, it's a best list. Big difference.
You mentioned a meh general public reaction, so it seemed that decent sales numbers was a counterpoint. Total anecdote: I don't own one and probably never will but my Mom (general public) thinks it's the best gift she's ever received. And she's received some nice things in the past.

Given that smartwatches have been around 2013 and have yet to crack the 20 million mark. Compare that to tablets, which went from less then 1 million sales in 2010 to over 70 million sales in 2013, almost reaching 80 million.

I'd say if you look at the overall picture, yeah it's pretty meh.

Not sure why we need to use tablets as the benchmark... and smartwatch sales were around 80 million by 2017 - with the number doubling every year.... so that seems a bit more than "meh"....

Comparing these 2 Apple products mentioned on the list, Apple sold 25 million iPads in Q1 2014 so yeah, the Apple Watch sales are quite a bit lower than that.

6.8 million compared to 80 million. Yeah pretty meh.
Why are we using tablets as the benchmark?
And it was 80 million in a YEAR... 6.8 million in a QUARTER... so it’s not nearly as “meh” as you imply...
Not to mention that tablet sales aren’t increasing nearly as much as smart watches...

Um, no. That was per quarter.

Um, no. That was per quarter.

That link has iPads selling 10.7 million units Q3 2019....
Apple shipped 9.2 million Apple Watch units in Q4 2018, capturing half of the market.
