Following yesterday's iPod classic storage bump to 160GB, Toshiba has announced a new family of 1.8-inch hard drives which top at the same capacity. Designed for use in portable media players and other consumer electronics products, the new MKxx34GAL series will also be available in 60, 80 and 120GB sizes, equipped with a single platter spinning at 4,200 RPM and a PATA interface.

Let us hope for the best. We have gone through a number of their old short-lived 30 and 40 GB 1.8 drives which were mostly expensive, and way too short of a good life.
Still we very much like their 80, 100, and 120 GB regular laptop drives... and of course their laptop-sized optical drives. If anybody can do it well, Toshiba is a top pick.
