Trouble reinstalling Windows XP

Hello, a friend of mine accidentally deleted an important file from his sys32 folder, and now they system will not boot. I placed the disc into the drive to try to reinstall and booted from the disc. As the disc finished loading, the status bar at the bottom read "starting up windows" or something of that nature. immediately I got the blue Stop error screen with the following error message

Stop: 0x000007E (0xc0000005, 0xf53e0bf, 0xf898a208 0xf8989f08)

Pci.sys- Address f853e0bf base at f8537000, datestamp 3b7d855c

There is nothing to do after this screen but restart it, and I do not know what else I can possibly do to fix this computer. If anybody has any information it would be greatly appreciated. I searched this on th microsoft website and it came up with no results!

Hi,
I think there's something wrong with ur hard disk driver or config.
Please try these
If you use enhanced controllers for your hard disk such as SATA. Go to system setup change it to compatible mode or disable.
OR try using minimal settings
If you are not sure how to do this pls do not proceed
Peace
