trouble with secondary h/d

  1. hey,
Im having some trouble getting my computer to work with 2 hard drives installed. Because when i have only my primary master hard drive installed (it has xp home) my computer works perfectly. But when i also hook up a 160 gb westurn digital into the primary slave port. Then the Bios doesn't find any of the hard drives and it wont boot.
Im confused as to what might be the problem. Its not the second 160 gb hard drive because i've checked.

Did you jumper the drive as slave?

IronDuke is almost certainly correct. Those type of problems are almost a textbook example of what happens when you don't have the jumpers set correctly.
