I have installed WinXP Pro and then Ubuntu 8.10 on one partitioned drive.

I want to uninstall Ubuntu and will do so by reformatting my laptop using the WinXP Pro CD

The issue that I can not boot from CD as this option is not on the Grub

How can I had booting CD from the Grub...?

first boot to an Ubuntu CD, you have to set the BIOS up to boot to CD first, use gparted on the live CD to delete your Ubuntu partitions and reboot. pop in your windows CD and select r for repair. when you get to the command prompt type fixmbr and this will remove the GRUB and boot you into windows normally.

    hope this helps.

This sounds ok but I am going back to the same issue as I started with.

I can not boot from CD as there is no such option in the Grub so how do I boot from Ubuntu CD ?

if you get to grub you have gone too far.

when you computer starts up hit the key that will take you into the BIOS (F2, F12, DEL, F10, etc.) one of them should work. then go to boot order and make sure CD ROM is first in the list. put your Ubuntu CD in the drive and restart your computer you should not see grub and you should boot directly to the Ubuntu CD.
