I recently purchased a spindle of dvd+r discs that are 16X....my dvd recorder's max is 4X. A noticed enclosed with the discs stated that i may need to update the firmware in the recorder to be sure that the discs will be operational in my recorder. I have been unable to find out how to do this update if needed. can someone please help? I have an emachines T3096. my recorder is dvd+/-rw, 4X max, write dvd+/-r. thanks for any replys!

You will have to find out the true manufacturer and type of your DVD burner. The name you see in Device Manager may give you a clue.

Then just go to the manufacturer's website and download the firmware update for your burner (make sure it is exactly for your model). The update will most likely be a Windows program you can simply run and press some confirmation buttons.
