My Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop, which was bought towards the beginning of this century, currently has a loud, slow, and very warm IBM TravelStar DJSA-210 hard disk. Needless to say, it's very old, and I would like to have a quieter, cooler, and faster laptop.

I've been eyeing a purchase of Addonics' CF Hard Drive Adapter and a nice big CF card to replace the hard disk. However, I just noticed today that the card adapter has 44 pins, while the hard disk has 44 contacts on a PCB-type connector.

Is there some type of adapter to brige these two connectors, or are there any other affordable ways to install flash-based storage (dedicated SSD or otherwise)? Or am I SOL and should get a new laptop?

That interface adapter on the old IBM drive should pull off, revealing a standard Parallel laptop hard drive pinout. Add this adapter to a new quieter hard drive
