Well as you must know, some games work well with some cards and some don't. (Who knows why !!! aren't they just video cards with onboard memory?)

Anyway, update, refit, blow out dust. You name it.

Will do. Slysoft seems to be working now. I hope it stays that way. But back to the server thing, how do you open a port for game servers? Im running windows server 2003. What virus software should I run in place of Trend and Spysweeper? As much as I like AVG I feel that there is better stuff out there. Why do you think that Trend was crashing my computer and what did all the other things in the dump mean? Im sorry for asking so many questions but I just want to know what is going on with my computer.

Server 2003 ! God's sake, now you stepped up a notch.

Well firstly do all the security updates for one.

As for an Antivirus for Server, Hmm, I agree AVG may be a little on the home user side. I'd recommend Kaspersky Internet Security (I really like that one!)

The MiniDumps, I've answered already (that's it!)

    The port number
This is a question for Jobeard (as security concerns come to mind)
Please PM him, he's better than me

what about antivirus for the pc that were diagnosing?
  5. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter Posts: 18,353

    we're ?

You mean Trend ? No I prefer Kaspersky (Trend is too high in resource)

So an antivirus program that uses to much system resources can really make your computer bsod? do you think SP1 will help? The computer is still running with no problems so lets just keep hoping.

No I didn't say that make your computer bsod?
    I said too much resource.

It just so happens that your Trend caused a BSOD (and that DID happen)
I recommended to remove it, and possibly get a lesser resourced IS
As the MiniDumps pointed to Memory issues.

Now I'm not going over that again !!

Well, I did say "Well firstly do all the security updates for one."

Well that you so much for your help. When i said SP1 i meant for vista. I guess I need to be more clear about things. Slysoft succesfully ripped 2 dvd's with no problems. Ill get in touch with jobeard about the server and maybe he can point me in right direction. Thanks again for your help.

No don't do the SP1 just yet, there have been others reporting of issues (unrelated) after doing this

I got another blue screen. This time a Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I have no idea why but as always here is my minidump. Sly soft was working fine and than I started another set of movies and yet again I got hit.

    Inside the 1 MiniDump:

    "Ancillary Function Driver for WinSock".

    Security updates again
Also Zone Alarm can cause this
WinsockFix program (out there in the wild) may fix it too
sfc /scannow is always a good idea
Can also be related to other programs interfering with Network (ie filesharing)

It's a bit broard to confirm any single issue at this point.

Alright I reinstalled my graphic drivers and that seems to have stopped the DRIVER_IRQL_.... But now of course I am getting the Memory_Managment again. Heres the minidump. I think were getting closer because there not nearly has frequent.

    Inside the 1 MiniDump:

    Ram again hey!

Clearing the CMOS resets the RAM voltage. You need a higher voltage to run at timings of 4-4-4-12. Check the BIOS to see what it's set at.
  15. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter Posts: 18,353

You know peterdiva, I've never grasped that exactly.
I mean why doesn't optimized defaults work exactly.?

I'm asking in this thread, just to get some clarity on it, and because I've seen others who have fixed issues adjusting these things too.
Maybe I should check mine. Seeming I've never done it.
  16. peterdiva TechSpot Ambassador Posts: 1,202

It depends on the RAM. DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 is over-spec. It's guaranteed to work, but only if you manually set a higher voltage.
  17. Moltar Newcomer, in training Posts: 57

so what do i need to set the voltages to? the bios is set to auto. im running on 2 of my 3 chips right now just to see what happens and it seems to be working. but you know maybe your right about the voltages. i mean it makes sence to have to up them to achieve a higher latency.

Download CPU-Z and report back the timings from the memory tab. Stick with 2 sticks of RAM for the time being.

Can I just Hijack this thread and throw mine in as well, please?
Actually, it might help in comparison! (yes this is a support answer :) )

So how do I read this 5.5.5.15 is that right?
And should I do anything anyway?

ok mine is 400 mhz, FSB 2.3, 5-5-5-18-22, and a CR of 2T

i want to make it 4-4-4-12 what do i need to do?
