    Did you ever check the Windows XP machine that you have the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol installed on the machine. You can download the Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder from the Microsoft website

    honestly I would start a new thread because this one is so long, thanks to me, people are not going to want to read through everything we just tried.

    And I would change the title to 'Vista computer cannot share files with XP computer on home network'

    There is a section titled networking and storage that might be better suited than windows OS
