programs are often updated so posted links will not always work weeks later.

The instructions in this thread were for the use of the original poster and were specific to the infection seen in their logs.

If you have similar problems I suggest you follow follow these Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and post back in our security and the web forum with the requested logs. There should be at least 3.

1)MBAM or SAS log
2)Combofix log
3)Hijackthis log (Step 15)

Same issue...

Blind Dragon, I hope you can help me as well...

I had the same thing happen to me last night - no task manager, wallpaper changed to the same yellow text, auto-shutdown process, etc.

I tried to follow through your instructions, and I was able to install SAS and clean up like four hundred-something files and the SDFix (also had no "Y" option so I also did option 2 which downloaded some Norman utility) but for some reason the Anti-Malware program you recommended in your first instructional will not install. I used another comp in our house to DL the progs to a microSD and then moved them to my infected PC. I could install SAS and SD no problem, but when I click the mbam, I get nothing.

I'm so sorry to put you through this again, and thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give me.

Please follow the links that I provided above instead of the instructions in this thread that were specific to the original poster. SDFix has to be ran from safe mode to have option 2 available and it is not compatible with Vista, for future reference

Thanks for the point in the right direction, Blind Dragon.

I followed the link and have hit a snag right off. I installed AVG and ran it, but I cannot get any updates because if I bootup connected, I get the system error popup that initiates an automatic shutdown after a one minute count down. If I startup with the LAN disconnected, I can run the system.
Also, when I attempt to install HJT, I get nothing. No windows, no program...nothing.

Suggestions? =\

Doesn't sound good. I would download and update all the programs from another computer then put them on a USB stick or burn them to CD, then install them updated to this machine.

Also can you please start your own thread. This thread was for the specific use of the original poster
