Weekend Open Forum: How many processes are running right now?

I have 45 processes running at the moment, and half of them are svchost lol (ok not really, but I have like 8 svchost processes running).

Windows XP SP3 here btw. ;)

71 running now i windows xp pro sp3 32bit 4 core amd cpu at 3.4ghz and 3.25gb of system ram it's really 4gb but reports 3.25gb of dd2 800mhz. im running bonic world community grid on two of 4 cores. mainly rest are windows and security programs. cpu usage is at 50% and page file usage is 1.20gb. does large page file matter these days anymore.

107 atm,but i dont really keep tabs on it anymore...the bottleneck on mainstream notebooks is really the hard disks these days

Yeah, Really I yes, I take care about the number of process on my "Windows XP" PCs.

My own rules:
(<= 20+1 for 1 core ... really not posible)... then the number for 2 cores.
<= 35+1 for 2 cores ... posible
<= 45+1 for 3 cores ... very posible
<= 50+1 for 4 cores ... very very posible

+1 for "Task manager".

a 80GB disk partition for OS, rest (same disk and others) for data,
I use a Defrag Utility for disks care (I can recommend Ultimate Defrag > 2.0),
and I tune some params...

...Really I did't have any speed problems with my old PCs, Do you ?

I do wish to see this happen with our smartphones one day..seems like our win 98/xp optimisation days are back on our phones

I think other browsers are heading in the same direction as well. Reason for this is, if a site hangs up or crashes a tab, the whole browser session will not crash.

I think we should stick to not liking chrome in-line with our previous observations ;)
I honestly don't see any conflict of interest or mutual exclusivity issues here.

I can hate Chrome for all the reasons I've always hated it. I can hate the "one tab = one process" feature in Chrome on my own perceived lack of merit. I can hate Chrome idiopathically, and don't even have to justify that. And, I can also hate the "one tab = one process" feature in my own browser, (should it occur), without hating the browser itself. All bases covered, simple as that.

I run 44 to 50 at any given time! My startup is tweaked as well as my task schedule and actual services. Why run anything that is not necessary?

around 40s right after booting.
with browser, im and such right now around 75.

but this 32bit windows is what really holding me back. :(

46 right now. I don't install a lot of crap so I keep the number pretty low. It saddens me when I see someone running 80+ processes.

With Windows XP I had mine optimized down to 24 background processes, and now with Windows 7 64 Bit I am running 35.

I'm at 53 on the Win7 64bit and 32 on my xp 32bit box.. It could be lower but I have the two running Input director and virtual box for mint and Macubuntu machines.

Ran~

Currently on 95 processes, but that's because I only got around 15 Chrome tabs open. Usually around 120 processes with Chrome tabs taking around 40 of those, sometimes more. With 12GB RAM, it doesn't really matter though.

No clue. But I'll tell you one thing -- that graphic that you put there, showing the four processes (running each on its own processOR) looks a lot like my computer when I'm running music production software like Cubase.

50 processes running.............Opera active with 4 tabs open and just recovered from a BSOD!! lol
