Weekend Open Forum: What's your favorite video game of all time?

All you people naming common typical games like bioshock, the last of us, skyrim, really know very little about videogames
Even though I think you are possibly wrong, that still doesn't mean those games are not their favorite. Even though I do agree with you on Doom being my most favorite of all time, others have a difference of opinion. An opinion very likely based on how long they have been gaming.

Bandwagon Gamers .. period.

Unreal Tournament, Freespace 2, Dawn of War 2, and Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium wars.
It's hard to pick one.

1.- Super mario bros
2.- Super mario bros 3
3.- Street fighter II
4.- Ninja gaiden black.

Hypothetical question actually I would say,

but still

half life 2
hitman 2 & 3
mario
cod original and mw 1
dave original
tomb raider legend, anniversary and 2013
portal 2
batman aa
age of empires 1 & 2
mass effect 2
minecraft (this has no start or end, period)
manhunt
farcry 3
project igi original
road rash (zillions of fun)
freedom fighters (under rated fun gem)

few which falls in my taste might be missing from the list.

anyday can go and play one of those games

So many platforms and genres over the years to pick just one. So many memories and nostalgia.
Megadrive/SNES: The Chaos Engine, Toe Jam and Earl, NHL '93 or 94, Desert Strike series.
Amiga: Bugbomber, Cannon Fodder, Alcatraz
N64: Goldeneye
PS1: Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9
PS2: Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3 (by far the best)
Xbox: NHL hitz, Halo
PS3: Uncharted Trilogy, The Last of US
Xbox360: Alan Wake (tho I have a 360 I never play it. IMO its balls)
PC: Portal series. L4D series. Guild Wars 1

Although I have probably played L4D2 more than anything, I miss NHL Hitz and the fun me and my mates had playing that constantly. They really need to remake that game. But they are all faves for reasons. All been played the hell out of for different reasons. Just my opinion.

1. GTA Vice City, no question about it and it had the best music in any game ever developed. Period.
2. GTA 4 and GTA SA are next up and are tied.
3. A long gap back to the 1st two Batman Arkham series.
I'll rate GTA 5 once I've played it.

They asked for your favourite game, not every game you've ever played.

Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 really jump to mind.

However I LOVED the GameCube, and Melee was a love of mine along with Mario Kart Double Dash and Pokemon Ruby for GBA!

Tough to pick just one, but if I have to it's Super Metroid

Others:

Original Legend of Zelda
Faxanadu
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Civilization II
Prince of Persia 2
Quest for Glory series
Super Mario 64
Baldur's Gate 2
Ocarina of Time
Metroid Prime
World of Warcraft
Fallout 3
Assassin's Creed 2
Uncharted 2
The Last of Us

Perfect dark for N64 or Halo 2 on the xbox. Used to love getting the friends together to have big Halo LAN parties.

Oh god, what a hard question. Instead I'll have a list of games that I hold as equals

Oblivion
Call of Duty 4
Civilization V
Freespace 2
Mechwarrior 2

I'd have to say after thinking back into years past... probably...

1. World of Warcraft

2. Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty

And so on: Command and Conquer (the original, and tiberian sun/firestorm)

Red alert (1 and 2)

Starcraft (1 and 2)

Unreal Tournament

Duke Nukem 3D

The Legend of Zelda (NES)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis)

im so happy theres another person on the planet who feels better about oblivion than skyrim :p

Secret of Evermore. I know it's a game with a few issues. The biggest one that critics and gamers alike couldn't get over wasn't even its fault. It wasn't Secret of Mana 2. Big deal. It picked a tone and owned it. Has a great B-list story and script, didn't take itself too seriously and became a rapturous part of my childhood.

A true gamer doesnt have a favorite game of all time but instead a long list of games

That's crap. Movies and music, my favourite changes with my mood and the ebb and flow of the day. I can rattle off a nice long list truly great, memorable games that I loved to death. Some that became intrinsic parts of my life, but whenever asked what my favourite game of all time is, I can always say Secret of Evermore without a moments hesitation.
