I'm addicted to music in general.. but my love is house/dance.. as far as streams, my favorite is http://pressureradio.com - almost always live djs playing from the entire global (station is based in uk) mostly soulful and deep house, my 2nd alternative is Pandora, but if I'm buying that hard to find house/dance it's www.traxsource.com

and on a side note: can we please have one open forum w/o the off topic diatribe of race/politics?

    Play nice Captain. :haha:

I've asked nicely for the thread to be kept on topic rather than be side tracked with nonsense and abusive comments.

I use YouTube for music all the time. Via programs like Aura converter, you can easily (and legally) download any music clip on YouTube, provided you don't know whether it's illegally uploaded, which you basically don't.

Also, I usually find everything I look for. Amethystium mostly. But also Yello, Alexandrov choir, and Pulstar!

After I got a (paid) Spotify account I've almost forgot about my CD- and MP3-collection. When I don't know exactly what I want to listen to I often try one of the albums in the "What's new" section.

I love all kinds of music, I can listen to Tito Puente one day and Iron Maiden the next. Fleetwood Mac and Tod Rundgren. Eric B and Grand Master Flash or Soul Sonic Force. The Bee Gees and AC/DC, followed by some Led Zep. Listening to Prince as I type this.

I have about 10,000ish songs, even though I use Pandora and Grooveshark. I got my library because I am a rock DJ and they encourage us to rip the CDs so we can listen to them in our free time to get a feel for the music.

When I do listen to music, I use the radio. Its free and when a commercial comes on I just change to another station. I don't buy music nor do I illegally download it because:

    1. I don't support artists too dumb not to realize that the RIAA is ripping them off.
    2. Music since the mid to late 90s basically has sucked.

Sorry to burst your bubble Hip Hop fans but being able to rhyme, using heavy amounts of bass, adding some popular song looping in the background, and using Autotune does not make a good singer.

    Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder....

I'm guessing that your ADHD, won't allow you to finish a sentence with whole words. However, the rest of us really shouldn't have to suffer the annoyance your illness bring to the discussion..

Here again, this is a phrase, not even a sentence. I'm sure you believe this product of your "powerful" mind is largesse you've "bestowed upon us" It isn't. It's rather, "totally irrelevant". But thanks for the re-post @ #70...!

Actually, it does not make one a singer, period.

That's the underlying "grand hubris" of Rap. It's performed by people that believe that what they have to say, is too important to bother with trying to learn to sing. If they discovered they didn't have the talent for it, that would deprive the world of their "monumental revelations", and "gravitas opinions"! we couldn't have that now could we?

Yeah we could, and for that matter, should.

Probably not. "Art", (and music is "art", (well sometimes)), reflects the mores, events, and aesthetics of its contemporary culture. Just as the music of the 60's and 70's both advanced, and chronicled, the peace movement. That said, a discussion of all forms of contemporary music, by its very nature, must encompass race and politics.

    And here's why......
This is eminently forgettable. To fully access this, the viewer really needs to know what you're talking about in the first place.

Techspot offers these "Weekend Open Forums", to encourage non members to participate. This is to the sole end of increasing web traffic at this site.

So, if I post something that encourages laughter, angers people, or vaguely advances the discussion in any way, that produces traffic.

"A click, is a click, is a click"! So therefore, if I anger people enough to ring in to argue with me, call me a troll, or laugh along with me, those clicks count just as much as the the clicks the site isn't going to get from your post I'm quoting.

And yes, I fully anticipate that many of my posts, and the rebuttal posts they generate will have to be pulled. I've reconciled that, I'm good with it, it's a "necessary evil", (or perhaps, "necessary good", depending on viewpoint). End of story.

The snot nosed teenagers I have a habit of angering, certainly won't be buying from the "targeted advertising" on this site, but their clicks count anyway, now don't they?

The hit parade for this afternoon includes Lynyrd Skynyrd, Doobie Brothers, Collective Soul, Staind, Dire Straits, Boston, Connexx, Outlaws, Eagles, Supertramp, Disturbed, U2, Tull, Eric Clapton, Pat Benatar, Phil Collins and for the grand finale a good dose of Led Zeplin.

IMHO, no discussion of anything "Eagles", is complete without an aural investigation of Jackson Browne being included.

Did you know that Mark Knopfler picks all that s*** with his fingers? (As does Lindsey Buckingham. But since you didn't include Fleetwood Mac or Stevie NIcks, I suppose that point is moot).

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull always provided the most "Shakespearian" concert experience. Why, him with his cod piece, and us with our tetrahydrocannibinol recreational resources, were the perfect match. I still think, "Hunting Girl", (from "Songs from the Wood"), should have gotten a Grammy. But then the rest of his material should have also.

And then the Zeppelin. Being a relic of that time period and exposed to "Stairway to Heaven" several times a day, I no longer premeditatedly play it on the stereo. But, I can play it on the guitar. (Which seems to be sort of as right of passage for anyone who's ever picked up a guitar. So maybe I shouldn't say that so loud...) ! Gotta jet now,I think I hear a, "bustle in my hedgerow".......;)
