Ok i have done a bit of research, and based on the diagram i think it is an 8x after all?

    :grinthumb

But can someone just clarify it plz?

You definitely have an AGP slot, but I'd need your compag model number to confirm if it is 8x.

My guess is, you have an AGP 4x slot, but that's not a huge problem. The 8x cards are backwards compatible in the 4x slots.

    My model number is:

    Compaq Presario S7150UK

and i think it will work with 4x because:

    Brand/Model : Asus N6800XT/TD/128M
    Graphics Engine : GeForce 6800XT
    Video Memory : 128MB
    Core Clock : 300MHz
    Memory Clock : 700 MHz(350MHz DDR)

DonNagual is corret, Intel states your chipset supports 4X

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that lol, it will run on an X4 slot, but it has a lower bandwith rate compared to x8, but that is a different topic
  8. Cronnie Newcomer, in training Posts: 36

Oh right, but Age of Empires 3 will still work ok right...?

I am looking for it to run on medium quality.... will it smootly?
  9. Cronnie Newcomer, in training Posts: 36

    Help?

Also, i am mostly going to play Guild Wars: (Factions), which runs smooth on medium already so i expect it will run good on high details once i got my card?

Also, what is the highest setting AOE III and BF2 will run on smoothly?

    According to here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&product=411351&lang=en&y=4&docname=c00100539

you do have an AGP. Looking good. Now the next concern is whether or not your current PSU will be able to power this newer, stronger card.

I can't remember if we already covered this in this thread, and it's past my bedtime. How many watts is your PSU? If you don't know, open up your case and look at the sticker on the PSU itself.

    Here you go, :)

So we have gathered its an AGP 4x slot i have, so will the performance be significantly lower than what stated because it 4x?

Hey, sorry to kind of steal a thread, but I noticed you guys were discussing the very same video cards I was looking at and I wanted to ask a quick question. Is a GeForce 6800 128MB card, AGP 8X, better or worse than a GeForce 6600 256MB card, AGP 8X? I'm running and Athlon 64 3000+ with 1 GB of DDR memory, @ 2.4GHz.

Oh, and would Cronnie be so kind as to link where he found that 82.95 Euro 6800 XT? :D
  13. Cronnie Newcomer, in training Posts: 36

Mate i think the 6800 is better... but ill let one of the experts explain :)

And also, its pounds not euros....
  14. Simpsons Rule Newcomer, in training Posts: 17

My mistake, I live in America. I started a new topic because I forgot to ask about another card I was looking at

So the question you have is whether your 350 Watt power supply is good for the card. I'm not one to answer, but I'll tell you TigerDirect has the cheapest power supplies I've seen, if you do indeed need one:

You won't find anything good enough to play Age of Empires III for around 50 euros. I would get a GeForce 6800. Since those actually cost more than what you are willing to spend, here's a card that is able to play Age of Empires III: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131227
(It's Radeon because you have an Intel-based PC and ATI graphics cards are better for use on those systems.)
It's really cheap but it will get the job done. :)
  16. Coolmatt Newcomer, in training Posts: 141

Better, Video Memory typically doesn't mean a graphics card is better or worse unless its the same GPU in the video card.
  17. Cronnie Newcomer, in training Posts: 36

Yes i will see what performance i get with my 350W PSU, and decided whether to upgrade it :) Also, i was looking at misco.co.uk, which is the UK Version of tiger direct. (or sister site to be more precise)

Ha ha! 50 euros?!?!? I bought my 6800XT for around 150 euros lol!

And i am not using euros, im using GBP (£)
  18. Coolmatt Newcomer, in training Posts: 141

Umm...yeah...read what I said in the post again and see if what you said makes sense. Anyhow I didn't realize that the £ mean pounds, so anyway at least you bought a good video card. :D

Just like to thank all who helped me find my new card :)

It arrived today, installed and im currently addicted to my Bf2 demo (until i get my full copy of course) it runs like a dream!

I can also play Guild Wars on full quality and it is damn impressive, with no lag at all!

Gonna check my AOE III tomoro :)
