Why does my cd/rw open a screen but no media is present?

can some one help me?
why does my cd/rw open a screen but no media is present?
when i click any of my other drive icons they all say "insert disk in drive"
but when i click my cd/rw drive, it opens even if there is no media in it.
this drive will work when i put media in it but i cant burn cd any more. i am using nero 6 to burn cds. any thoughts?

Yep, because WindowsXP sees a CDR drive it knows it can write to it. So if you open it, even without a disk in the drive, it believes you are preparing to drag and drop files to it to be copied to a blank disk.

Its perfectly normal XP behavior.
