Hello again and thank you for your prompt response.
I have tried to follow your instructions however I am unable to do so because I cannot enter system recovery.
I am able to do the following steps
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
But a few minutes after I select the Repair your computer option I get an error message in a window saying

<Error>

An error has occurred
ERROR : F3-F100-004

An error has occurred
Please press [OK] to turn off the computer
OK

It seems that the malware is preventing me from accessing system restore? I am clueless as to how to proceed.

I don't know if the malware is doing that, but do you have the disc for Windows? It will provide alternative access.

I searched for it yesterday, I dont have the Windows disc. It wasnt included with the laptop apparently. Can another Windows disc work for my computer? For example if I am able to borrow a disc from one of my neighbors.
If I am unable to remove the malware will backing up my files to an external drive be safe? Id like to save some documents, videos and music if all else fails and a reformat is the only solution.
Thanks again for your help.

It will be safe to backup.

Let's try a different method here...

  • Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
  • Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
  • Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads

  • Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
  • Insert the flash drive with FRST on it
  • Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
  • The tool will start to run.

  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Thank you for the information. The infected laptop is not in my possession as of this moment, it belongs to my cousin and they went on a 1 week vacation so I will have access to it in about 7 days time. Please keep this thread open so that the issue can be resolved once he gets back. I thank you once again for your time, effort and understanding.
