Inactive Windows firewall is on eventhough it has been turned off

Hi,

I am having this strange issue here with windows firewall. I have a desktop running on XP Pro SP3 with AVG Anti Virus (no AVG firewall is installed). What is strange is that I have deliberately turned off the windows firewall under control panel and yet in the Windows Security Center, the windows firewall is on. I have checked in the add/remove programs under control panel to see if I missed out on other firewalls but to no avail.

I have also run malwarebyte program and detected nothing there.

Are there any way of finding out which firewalls is running in the background.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Welcome aboard :)

Why on earth would you want to turn firewall off?
It's the very first line of defense.

Thank you Broni for your prompt reply.

No, it was not my intention to turn it off at first. It's just by accident I went to check the windows firewall settings. I looked into the windows firewall and it was off but then I checked it in the windows security center, the windows firewall is on. I was puzzled. As far as I can remember, I did not install any firewalls other than the windows firewall. So i wonder if there is a way of checking what firewalls are running.

Thank you in advance
