My windows XP desktop icons along with the taskbar, registry editor, msconfig appear for about 5 seconds when i load them, then they both disappear are are no longer visible.

I already created a new user profile for my PC and it didn't help. When I right click on my desktop, and arrange desktop icons, 'show desktop icons' is checked.

Also, after this began happening, I ran a Norton Antivirus and Ad Aware scan and they both found some trojans which I then had removed (and the files associated with them by the programs respectively). I also tried system restore after that and the selected restore didn't work because it encountered some sort of error and said system restore can't be restored back to the selected restore point. It might be because adaware deleted some registry entries that were infected with trojans.

Can somebody please help if they have had similar experiences?

    Thanks

    Download RatsCheddar.zip http://www.castlecops.com/zx/sjpritch25/RatsCheddar.zip

It contains a program written by Rathat, and it is a Policy Controller.
Save and extract this program to the desktop.
Once extracted, click on the RatsCheddar.exe file.
    Enable everything, then click Exit
    Reboot your Computer.
