When my update has XP SP3 i'll read the benefits and needs first
Well when it becomes an automatic critical update, 99% of users will get it.
The 1% is for users, like you, that do manual updates when you decide.
But if you decide against it, then you won't get any future updates, until you do install SP3.
ie You must do it inevitably anyway. (I'm sure that'll start a debate)

I have a message from Microsoft that Service Pack 3 will be out today, April 29. I don't know if that is because I have a membership in their TechNet or not... as that was released April 23.
Updated April 23, 2008

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) stand-alone is now available for download. Windows XP SP3 includes all previously released updates for the operating system, in addition to a small number of new updates. Windows XP SP3 will not significantly change the Windows XP experience.

Installation media and documentation on disc for Windows XP SP3 may sometimes refer to Windows XP SP2. Windows XP SP2 installation guide instructions apply to Windows XP SP3.

Non-subscribers:

Windows XP SP3 will be available to non-subscribers on 4/29 via Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center."

So it appears to me it is out, but I cannot find it at the site Microsoft listed.

Hey guys, if you want to slipstream the Corporate edition of XP "WXPVOL_EN", make sure that you do not do this in Vista. It has to be done on a XP installation or it will not accept your VLK key when you type it in the setup. I am not sure if this applies to the other editions of XP like Professional and Home, but I would only slipstream on XP. I have experienced problems when doing so on Vista. The slipstreaming can also be done through VM Ware with a XP installation. I also reccommend that you use the XP SP0 Disk (Original Disk) to slipstream over.

Stupid Question; Can this update be made by just installing the differential files?

Has activation been eliminated?

I am not sure if activation has been eliminated, because on corporate editions, you don't need to activate. It is reccommended that you do a clean install of sp3. Reformat, and install clean from a slipstreamed cd.

Read the news articles. SP3 did NOT come out today and the release date has not be reset.

I think the reference here is meant to be Final Release. Yes, the beta versions have been around for a while. I don't encourage anyone to get beta software unless they are beta testers!

I don't think "I" need it." ;)

The final release has already been mailed to two groups. It is supposed to be available to other Windows XP users by midnight.

It's not there yet. At your link we can download an overview of Service Pack 3 but not Service Pack 3 itself.

Thats right,I didn't want it so i didn't look for the download option.
10:45 EDT.
But i hope it explains if you need it.Everyone is so worried about this.

I just went to Windows Update (April 30th) using Express and also using Custom

On both occasions Windows XpSP3 was not available in the list

Quote from here: http://www.macobserver.com/article/2008/04/29.12.shtml

Microsoft has delayed the Web release of Windows XP SP3, scheduled for today, due to an incompatibility found with Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and Vista SP1.

A Microsoft spokesperson told TMO on Tuesday:

"In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). Microsoft Dynamics RMS is a retail chain management solution for small and midsize customers.

In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center. To help protect our customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Download Center.

Until we have published a fix for this issue, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack. Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers running Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 should contact Microsoft Customer Support Services for additional information.

The fix is currently in testing and will be available as soon as that process is complete."

April 29th !

But due to the delay (please read my post ^ I just posted).
MS are trying to resolve an error (already) with it.
Expected fix time. ASAP or as soon as they fix the fault.

Did you not notice that your OS was being checked,
(Blue running line};)
then listed "YOUR" Updates. You either have it or don't need it.
It wasn't listed for my XP.It's mainly for 2000 and MSOffice.

zipperman what the heck are you talking about?
Sometimes I don't know

Anyway yes Windows Updates thankfully check if I have it installed already.
Umm, no I don't, does anyone?

As for 2000 and Office (possibly SP3 for office) I don't want that.
