X800GTO artifacting :(

I have the Silencer 4 for my X800XT PE and everything fits fine EXCEPT the fan electrical connector. I have to find an adapter to connect it directly to the psu. For different reasons Arctic Cooler's website recommends connecting it to the psu. It's not an immediate problem since I've upgraded my graphics card and this one is a spare.
Hmm, connecting it directly to the PSU wouldn't allow for any fan control right? That sucks if you want it to be truely silent..

Unless, does it run silent on full RPM's?(more so than the stock?)

Just a probably stupid question:

Do you think my PSU can handle the extra load?

My PSU has 400W, and 36A on the 12V rail. Has good amps, but what about the wattage?

^ i think it will do the work,
Wolfram u still freakin me out :p cuz i was supposed to get the Power color X800GTO

It's a good card man, don't be scared. I no longer have heating problem (ambient was too hot), and it's damn fast.

But I saw a chance to upgrade to the X850XT, and I don't wanna miss it :)

I have the X850XT, and I must say I love it. The stock cooler is annoyingly loud though, but since you're getting the ATI Silencer 5 that won't pose a problem :)

Good luck!

Yeah, the X850XT is VERY fast (atleast for me).

The stock fan does make some noise, but I don't think it's worth it to replace it. While browsing the internet or something it idles around 36C, and I can barely hear the cooler. When playing FEAR (with loads of players) I can't hear it either, because I have my speakers on :D. But atleast it never goes above 58C... (I'm using ATI Tray Tools to control the fan and monitor the temps.)

But, if you wish to have a SILENT PC, yes, use the ATI Silencer.

Mine idles around 42-45, and loads max of 65. :(

How do you keep yours so cool? I even replaced the stock thermal paste with AS5 but that did nothing...

I believe you are correct. They also suggest using a thermistor to regulate the current.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

And yes, I will install the ATI Silencer 5, and dump the stock cooler. It should be way more silent...

wolfram, just curious, but what kind of fan connector does the Silencer 5 have? Does it match the graphics card power connector?

My ATI Silencer is here!! I couldn't pick it up today though. I'm excited to attach that thing.

:)

Glad for you mate! :)

Mine will arrive this Sunday :) But I still can't sell the X800GTO.

I should get the X850XT in a few weeks (or months :( )

Ty! I just popped it in, and now my idle temps are 33C! (usually from 40-45).

I leave it running at 100% and it's silent as night. Very, very, very well worth the money.

Good luck on selling your X800GTO man.

Btw, sorry for hijacking your thread :p

EDIT

Side note, I misplaced my tube of AS5(at least 3/4 of it was still in there :(, used some weird white paste that came with my Zalman cooler) This stuff is probably decent paste anyways, so i don't think the AS5 would've made a dramatic difference.

Don't worry, you aren't hijacking anything :)

I'll post back when I get the X850XT, and install the silencer.

See you around!

Heh, these days (a bit cooler than in the summer) it idles around 33-34C, and under full load goes to max at 52 (that is, if I'm in a hot scene in FEAR and press "Quit" and immediately look at my temp sensor in the system tray)... How much does yours go to under full load (FEAR, FarCry, etc.)?

Btw, I am amazed it can handle widescreen (16:10)... Everything had to go from high to medium-high though, but then again that isnt much of a problem.

When idling I can barely hear it, and when playing a game I can't hear it either (headphones on)....

EDIT: But then again, I have an efficient cooling system. My mother PCI-E x16 slot is down a the bottom with 2 PCI slots below it. I have a fan right in front of the pc, about the same height as the card is. Since the card sucks air from the front of the case, it sucks in directly the air that just came from the front fan (which has a filter for dust). That is, the card uses fresh and cold air and exhaust it directly to the back. I also have 2 fans on the side of the case that blow directly on the card from the side, which keeps it even cooler (and my mobo went from 42-45C to 30C). Then, one of the side fans blows directly on the CPU fan, which blows on the CPU heatsink, which's air gets sucked out into the outside by the fan right next to the CPU... So to sum it up, all my parts have seperate air sources so that they get cold air (and not hot "reused" air) and directly exhaust it later.

On not-so intense game, full load is 48C, intense scens in FEAR(I use 1 min Flash OSD to monitor it in-game, it's around 51C peak(max of 52 but it's never flashed 52 afaik).

I love this thing! And yeah, in the heat I'd expect it to idle a few C higher, but still this is quite an amazing cooler.

@wolfram, I hope you get it soon. I love this card a lot more now that the annoying stock cooler is GONE!

Today I've got it :) It's beautiful, large, fantastic.

I finally sold the X800GTO!

And I have ordered the X850XT a few days ago, and should arrive soon.

I'll post back when I get it :)

BTW, I hope Howard doesn't close this thread. I think this is a little off topic, because the X800GTO was no longer artifacting, and I don't even have it anymore :p

Finally got it!!

Today, I finally got my X850XT PE. It works great. Very fast card, handled BF2 at highest setting without a problem. Too much GPU power :)

I now have to change the stock cooler, is UNBELIEVABLE LOUD @ 100%. I'll mount the silencer, and I'll post back some pics.
Now I have to format my PC, and it's gonna take a WHILE

Regards

Nice. Send me your new 3Dmark scores... and we can see how much worse u pwn me than you did with your old X800GTO. :)

I'll later send you those 3Dmark scores. It's gonna take a while... I still haven't finished to install everything :)

Here I have some pics of the card (sorry for the fuzzy and dark pics, I'm not a professional photographer hehe :p)

Here you can see my modded chipset fan hehe.

And the last foto, a close up of my card, and you can see my front USB cable mod hehe.

It doesn't look pretty, but it works! I almost couldn't connect it, because the Silencer is so huge!

BTW, do you think that I can install a sound card on the last PCI slot?

Regards

Yes, but you'd probably have to shove that wire off the slot ;)

It'd be a tight fit, but sound cards are generally small so it should be fine.

Yeah, I will have to eliminate that ugly wire, and get an external USB Hub, but that's not a problem. I've thinking about getting a Creative Audigy 4 sound card. I hope it can fit. I don't know how big it is...
