Linux on your mobile?

Could you soon be running Linux on your mobile phone? Well, its a nice idea but there are problems. Linux requires significant work by handset makers to provide a full application downloading platform and it lacks the full real time support of the proprietary, native cellphone operating systems. However, MontaVista Software, the main distributor of phone-specific Linux, says it has cracked these kinds of problems and is ready to rock. They believe that the Linux OS could and should become a mainstream platform for midrange and low end cellphones, as well as many other embedded devices.
