Mobilinux operating system for mobiles

Will we all soon be running Linux on our mobiles? If MontaVista Software Inc. have their way, yes. They chose today to launch their version of the Linux platform built specifically for mobile phones. The product is primarily targeted at the mid-range handset market-devices that are currently dominated by such companies as PalmSource Inc. and Symbian.

"That's really where the growth is going to take place," explained Paxton Cooper, MontaVista's director of product marketing.

MontaVista hopes that the open source nature of Linux will help to encourage development for mobiles, and have thus created the Mobilinux operating system.
