SATA300 Drives From Maxtor

Maxtor is now offering Serial ATA 300 drives as part of their standard lineup, dubbed the MaxLine III's and the next set of DiamondMax 10s. Though no drive on the market can saturate that already fast SATA link, the improved speed helps when reading cached data. With NCQ now becoming widely adopted into SATA, it is a serious contender for SCSI. Like the updates to PATA in the past, these new drives will be fully backwards compatible with existing SATA controllers. The MaxLink III drives are large disks, 250GB and larger, with the standard 16MB cache for those, and a very impressive 4.17ms average latency, definitely showing improvement for big disks.
