Sony to pull out of Plasma screens

In a very surprising move, Sony has stated that soon they will no longer sell Plasma TVs and will pull out of the Plasma screen market completely. Following a costly recall and tough competition, Sony will instead choose to focus on TFT LCD production, which they are having much better success in. Many predicted the move coming over time, though many not quite this soon, with a 67% drop this year in Plasma sales as opposed to 2005.

They are doing quite well in other areas, however, and took the number one spot form LCD Televisions in the end of 2005, and have many plants available to them for production of LCDs, unlike Plasma.
