In an encouraging effort by game developer and publisher Sierra Entertainment, they just announced that will be making available as a free download the multiplayer portion of the highly regarded first person shooter, F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon).

This new standalone package containing the multiplayer part of the game has been denominated F.E.A.R. Combat, and will include all the updates, additional official maps and official game modes all in one downloadable file.

F.E.A.R. Combat features: 10 Multiplayer Game modes, 19 Multiplayer Maps, 12 different weapons, Punkbuster support or anti cheat support, the capability to download user generated content.
F.E.A.R. Combat will be available for download on August 17th. Users wanting to play the game need to register on the official website first. And in case you were wondering, Combat players will be able to join those owning the full retail game as they are fully compatible. (Thanks to luvhuffer on the forums for pointing this out).

  1. That is very cool. I own FEAR but I'd love to see this become a trend for some of the other FPS's out there. Let people try the multi-player and try and sell them on a single player or maybe sell new maps to them.
  2. what are they realcing, a new virsion?
