Philips loses Quanta over CD-R license fiasco
Quanta, one of the companies that is currently having their license for CD-Rs yanked by Philips, is looking to get a patent license from a different company. Rather then choose to enter negotiations with Philips, they are looking for other companies, which could include Sony, Pansonic, Pioneer and others. Whether it was because of unreasonable terms, excessive royalties or just annoyance, Philips will be losing Quanta and possibly others, fallout from their decision to pull licensing for manufacturing CD-Rs from many companies. Whether or not Quanta will still manufacture DVDs using Philips patents isn't mentioned.
