AMD ditches existing Radeon naming scheme
As R600 cards get closer and closer to market, AMD continues to change things seemingly on a whim. Due to the coupled Avivo HD technology, the R600 line will be released under a different name than what has become the traditional “X” prefix scheme. Now, you'll have the “Radeon HD 2900” and all the variants therein, such as the Radeon HD 2900 Pro / XT. Supposedly this is to reflect the advancements R600 is bringing. As usual, AMD is not releasing specific release dates or specific pricing, but they sure can't wait much longer.
