Sony to pull rootkit from USB drives

By Justin Mann

On September 4, 2007, 5:19 PM

While nowhere near as bad as the backlash they received from the rootkit-laden CDs years back, Sony has faced some criticism and concerns in the media lately over some USB drives. They assured us that the software present in this latest fiasco was causing concerns unintentionally.

To further that claim, Sony is preparing an update for the USB drives that will remove the software. Again, as they did with the CD fiasco, they are blaming a 3rd-party software vendor – not in-house development. This did not become a nightmare, so perhaps Sony has done the right thing in this case.

The update is supposed to be available later this month.
