Acer to remain vendor-neutral in Blu-ray vs HD DVD
It seems that reports last week about Acer choosing to stick with Blu-ray as a preferred supported medium may have been too much in haste. The HD DVD camp has issued a press release saying that Acer has joined their promotional group as well, making Acer a “vendor-neutral” supplier.
It wouldn't surprise me – and would be a good move. Amidst some slowing sales that caused them to lose their #3 spot, they should be seeking to open up to as many markets as possible. Whether or not they will support dual-format drives is another question, but at the very least I hope Acer makes both Blu-ray and HD DVD an option for their laptops, and possibly desktops should they extend to that in the future with their purchase of Gateway.
