The battle between Apple and the iPhone hacking community continues to heat up. Earlier today, Apple finally released its 1.1.2 firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch, fixing – among other things – the TIFF security flaw in Safari that enabled the latest slew of jailbreaks. Mere hours after its release, however, the hacking community managed to re-open the iPod Touch for third-party apps.

According to TUAW, firmware 1.1.1 is needed to get jailbreak to work for 1.1.2. Although the new the new unlocking method is still not release ready or user friendly, it is being prepared for the same single tap installation available for version 1.1.1. At this point, only the iPod Touch has been “jailbroken”, but chances are an unlock for the iPhone isn't far behind.
