Trend Micro falls victim to web attack
A website getting compromised isn't all that surprising. But when that website is owned by a company that is dedicated to Internet Security and is considered to be one of the best, it may be quite a different story. Thus it was interesting to read about Trend Micro, who have recently fallen victim to attack and have had their website hacked.
In this instance, Trend Micro's site was exploited and used to install malware. Although not the entire site was compromised, it was enough for their security team to take down the site and fix the problem. Trend Micro was not the only site affected but thousands of sites were apparently targeted, with the common denominator being that they all relied on Microsoft's ASP technology, a popular web development framework.

Wow, egg on their faces.Seems like a good example of why open source > closed source. There's clearly an issue here that everyone is at the mercy of Microsoft to find and patch. Hopefully they'll consider it important enough to release an out of cycle patch. |
