OCZ expands Vertex SSD line with SLC-based offerings
OCZ Technology has been hard at work the past few months bolstering their flash-based storage offerings, from the recently announced mini PCI Express SSDs to the performance Apex and high-end Vertex series. Today, they have expanded upon the latter, with new Vertex EX models that use SLC NAND flash memory rather than MLC on the current version and are designed specifically for server environments and enterprise applications.

Available in two capacities, these 2.5-inch drives promise sequential read and write speeds of up to 260MB/s and 210MB/s for the 120GB version and 260MB/s and 200MB/s for the 60GB version. Both of them will have the same sustained write speed of up to 100MB/s and 64MB of onboard cache, according to the press release. OCZ is backing the Vertex EX series with a two-year warranty and says the drives have a MTBF of 1.5 million hours.
The company has yet to publish the respective pricing details. However, since the new drives are based on SLC NAND flash memory, you can expect them to cost significantly more than the original Vertex series – which in our latest review emerged as the as the best value SSD option.

I'd like to nominate this drive for the next Techspot free giveaway contest. Can I get a second? |

Second... These are the future and I can't wait till they get into my price range. I'm running raid 0 on WD 1TB black hard drives doing around 190MB/s . Wow two of these in raid would be insane plus with the low latency. I am soo excited. These will be mine...Oh yes they will! |

Without a list price yet, I can't make any guarantees about this one, but at least a MLC SSD drive is in order for our next contest, I agree. |
