Swedish retailers open Far Cry 3 preorders, coming this year?

Two Swedish retailers have created preorder pages for the next iteration of Far Cry. Game.se and Webhallen.com have priced a standard and collector's edition of Far Cry 3 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A basic PC copy will cost 499kr, while console versions are 599kr. The collector's edition is 799kr and 999kr. A direct conversion shows higher than usual pricing in US dollars, but Ubisoft will surely stick to the norm.

What's more interesting, is that both sites claim the title is coming in 2010. Ubisoft has previously said that it's developing the franchise's third installment, but nothing has been officially unveiled. You'd think they would have said something by now if a holiday launch was planned -- especially with E3 and Gamescom recently passing. Some speculate the developer is planning a blowout for the Tokyo Game Show next month.

The stores could also just be speculating it's coming this year in an effort to score a few early sales. One makes it clear that "price, product description and release dates are tentative and subject to change." Far Cry 3 is set in Africa again, but with an even larger world and a completely updated Dunia engine. The listing mentions that an Internet connection is required to play the game, which presumably means Ubisoft's DRM is present.

  1. Swedish prices always include the 25% VAT. A more fair comparison that history has proven to be fairly accurate when it comes to tech in general is $10 USD = 100 SEK. So, at 599 SEK it's most likely to be priced at $59 in US stores (plus tax).

    (599 * 0,8) * Swedish krona = 64,3723736 U.S. dollars

  2. In Africa again? I'll pass.

  3. No way man. Yes, Act 1 was odd and repetitive, a little like GTA, forcing you to drive through endless roadblocks to get from one end of the map to another.

But Act 2 and especially Act 3 were awesome, with the southern map being much more entertaining and the missions very interesting. The amount of detail was amazing.

  4. If they have that rubbish DRM on it then I will skip it.

  5. Look this is a list of vehicles I would like to be able to drive in far cry 3: bulletproof SUV with a machine gun on top , C130 Hercules (If u played all of the call of duty modern warfare 2 campaign u drive into one) MIG fighter gets, HIND attack helicopters, AA flak guns, drivable barges, be able to pick up and move mounted turrets. Also I would like to have a rope which u can attach one end to a vehicle and get pulled along by it, also give us Pave Lows!!! All o which you can drive, make it how you can hire mercenaries that follow you around, get attachments for weapons that sometimes u can remove on the fly.

  6. well i am posting this on wednesday 29 of december 2010 there is 2 days left but i know it wont come out so they really f**ked up just shows the sweds know nothing

Far Cry 2 was terrible... i think i played it once and then sold it.

Perfectly understandable. Even though I kept my copy, I've always thought (and still think that) FC2 is incredibly booooring... And the Infamous setting... well... let's just call it "Dante Must Die!"

    Edit:

Oh, also: I pressed the link for Far Cry 3 on Webhallen.com - and only Far Cry 1 and 2 copies showed up - report: no Far Cry 3 provided at the Far Cry 3 @ Webhallen.com link.

  8. I believe and still rate FC2 as one of the best single player FPS in the business. I love the fact that i have every weapon in the game, but if my plan for the mission gets boned, I'm as useless as a noob on a COD server. FC2 makes you think, and move and act with considered precision. That's why it's abhorred by run-and-gun enthusiasts.

FC2 is more Modern Warfare than COD ever could be. Same faceless enemies, same unrelenting attack vectors as those you face in real situations. Same need for ingenuity and stealth. Reviewers bag this game for the lack of common stealth conventions. I believe it is the most stealthy game i've ever played. no quarter is given by the AI for flamboyant attacks, and that forces stealth tactics upon the player like never before, within rigid boundaries.

FC2 was a game before its time. I only hope that Ubisoft stay true to the original convention.

  9. I got FC2 free with my GTX 295 and I wasn't really impressed. Hopefully, the devs will be able to script AI a little better this time
