Apple still plans on delivering 40 million iPads in 2011. Shipment volume is expected to top 6 million to 6.5 million units, including over 3 million iPad 2 models, in Q1 2011 and will be 10 million to 12 million units in Q2 2011, according to component suppliers in Taiwan quoted by DigiTimes.

After producing somewhere between 1.7 million to 2 million units of the first-generation iPad in January, Apple began to phase out production in February and started rolling out the iPad 2. Just this month, shipments of the iPad 2 are expected be in the 2 million to 3 million range.

Apple announced the iPad 2 yesterday. The device will start shipping on March 11, 2011 in the US. On March 25, it will arrive in 26 more countries.

The original iPad dominated the tablet market last year. Will the iPad 2 do the same?
