Anonymous is also rallying participants to contribute to the DDoS attack. It appears to be a particularly successful attack: Sony is a massive corporation, but apparently an equally massive number of users are eager to show their anger with the company. Sony's official stance is as follows: if you crack your PS3, you'll get banned.
Most Anonymous are online-only attacks, but Operation Sony will also feature a protest that involves users leaving their computer. The organization has one smart trick up its sleeve: it is not picking a single location, so as not to limit maximum exposure. On April 16, 2011 Anonymous wants gamers to gather at their local Sony stores to complain in person.
This may just be Anonymous' biggest endeavor. In case you can't see the image above, here is the full text of Anonymous' message:
Dear
Greedy MotherfuckersSONY,Congratulations! You are now receiving the attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal actions against fellow internet citizens, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo have been deemed an unforgivable offense against free speech and internet freedom, primary sources of free lulz (and you know how we feel about lulz.)
You have abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information about how your products work. You have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target those who seek this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands of innocent people who only sought the free distribution of information. Your suppression of this information is motivated by corporate greed and the desire for complete control over the actions of individuals who purchase and use your products, at least when those actions threaten to undermine the corrupt stranglehold you seek to maintain over copywrong, oops, "copyright".
Your corrupt business practices are indicative of a corporate philosophy that would deny consumers the right to use products they have paid for, and rightfully own, in the manner of their choosing. Perhaps you should alert your customers to the fact that they are apparently only renting your products? In light of this assault on both rights and free expression, Anonymous, the notoriously handsome rulers of the internet, would like to inform you that you have only been "renting" your web domains. Having trodden upon Anonymous' rights, you must now be trodden on.
If you disagree with the disciplinary actions against your private parts domains, then we trust you can also understand our motivations for these actions. You own your domains. You paid for them with your own money. Now Anonymous is attacking your private property because we disagree with your actions. And that seems, dare we say it, "wrong." Sound familiar?
Let Anonymous teach you a few important lessons that your mother forgot:
1. Don't do it to someone else if you don't want it to be done to you.
2. Information is free.
3. We own this. Forever.
As for the "judges" and complicit legal entities who have enabled these cowards: You are no better than SONY itself in our eyes and remain guilty of undermining the well-being of the populace and subverting your judicial mandate.
We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not Forgive.
We do not Forget.
Expect us.

I never used to think Anonymous were pathetic 'til I read that image. It's all good for the first two paragraphs, then it all goes wrong. Expect us? You will now experience the wrath of Anonymous? Who do they think they are? I would have said they sounded like 10 year olds, but i forgot that's what they mostly are. Besides, they will forget.
The Playstation website was slow as f*ck before this; now it will be a mess...

Even though Sony deserves it as does Microsoft for their inept amounts of greed. I don't think this is the way to do it.
Anonymous smacks of self important "look at me" acts of forms of cyberterrorism.
Where does it end? When they take down something that ends up hurting someone?
Obviously taking down the Playstation Network doesn't fall into that category. However, I think the question still should be asked.

So they're greedy are they? Have you heard of capitalism before? They are working hard to ensure they do as best they can. What else would you expect? How can anyone honestly expect them to do anything else?

They have the rights to protect their property and before you complained that you can do whatever you want because you bought the system, go and read the service agreement that you "agree" when you bought the system.
I agree with what Sony is doing but I don't like what they're doing. Basically I agree that Sony has every right to protect their property and proceeding with legal actions but I don't like that they did that with GeoHot because I think they are taking it too far. However I don't agree and don't like what Anonymous did here.
The sense of entitlement is getting ridiculous.

Andrew Cockburn wrote an excellent piece (rightfully titled as well with Deep Throat's reference) 'Follow the Money' sometime ago. Now, the industry targetted in that article is different, but frankly, the practices of what I call 'corporatocracy' in all industries is same; hence, they have simple mission always 'enhance bottom line with whatever it takes'. Now if you understand this, only then you can grasp the reasons these corporations are constantly trying to implement some form of DRM (or similar ghastly lockouts) in everything digital instead of revisiting their own failings in the market place and improving upon them to stop piracy etc.

i won't comment onto the article, for most of you knows my position. I'm a PRO SONY in this case, check it out i said in this case, for as a PS3 owner i suffered more of Geohot's & those hackers decision than i won something out of it, so yes if i buy something i want to use it with peace of mind & no burden,
I admit that SONY does a bit too much, but if it succeed in slowing down such actions in the future, i shall even send them money to get rid of hackers.
those hackers, even if i understand their point of view & the hypocrisy behind a lot of them, as well behind a lot of comments on various sites, it's always a big responsibility when you CAN do something while you also learn the HOW, WHEN, WHY to do so... i shall respect hacker who shows me that he CAN break open a system, when he/she can also prevent the same from being exploited by others & as long as it is a sport not terrorism.
"don't do unto others what you don't want others do unto you" - this is my 1st principle ...

Not that I usually agree with Annonymous, but this thing between GeoHot and Sony has really made me think a lot less of Sony as a reputable company. I'm not usually one to write letters or send emails, but I might end up writing a letter to their gaming division's HQ on April 17th. Going to a local retailer is going to do nothing except upset the employees at your local Gamestop.
