Sony and IBM have [URL=http://news.com.com/2100-1043-986195.html?tag=lh]announced[/URL] they will be working together in order to move the PS2 Network to Butterfly.net, an IBM-backed service that applies the grid computing concept in which multiple servers work together as a virtual supercomputer.

Something similar has been used for a while by publishers of multiplayer PC games, now this seems a logical step for Sony who certainly hopes this will give them serious advantage against Microsoft in terms of simplicity and reliability (end user side).
