Back in 1999, Microsoft released a promotional video detailing its vision of a futuristic "smart home." Clips from the past like these are usually good for some laughs as the predictions presented typically prove to be way off the mark but this particular video from Microsoft is so incredibly spot-on that it's a bit creepy.

Things like automated lighting, text messaging, mobile location tracking, shared calendars, online grocery shopping and delivery, DVR technology, smart appliances, e-book readers and more are all described in shocking detail.

The only thing it seems we're still waiting on is a connected waste basket to add things to a shopping list as the spent items are discarded.
