Need to get somewhere and want to feel really cool? Take an Uber helicopter. Sounds crazy, but it might be happening sooner than you think. The Wall Street Journal reports that Uber has signed a deal with Airbus for a transportation test project that launches in "several weeks."

The article didn't share the details of this new development, but the overall hope is to lower the cost of Uber-in-the-sky options. In the past when Uber tested its UberChopper, it just seemed like an expensive novelty. For example, in 2013 they tested its UberChopper service between Manhattan and the Hamptons. And they've also done some helicopter rides for some music and film festivals. Us everyday folk aren't exactly the target demographic in those cases.

Maybe this deal with Airbus will change helicopter rides into something more ordinary. We'll see. I don't think I'm the only one hoping the day comes when I can yell, "Get to the choppa!" when I need to go to the store.
