Benchmarks: Crysis

Crysis tends to favor Nvidia based graphics cards, so it will be interesting to see how the Radeon HD 4870 X2 takes on the mighty GeForce GTX 280 in this title.

At 1440x900 we see that Crossfire is quite ineffective, as a single Radeon HD 4870 is faster than two. The Radeon HD 4870 X2 does quite poorly at this resolution, trailing behind the GeForce GTX 280 by a 10% margin.

Increasing the resolution to 1680x1050 helps bring the Radeon HD 4870 X2 to life, though it is still 9% slower than the GeForce GTX 280. The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is now just a single frame (on average) faster than a single Radeon HD 4870 card.

At 1920x1200 the Radeon HD 4870 X2 is able to take charge, and despite being 2 fps slower than the GeForce 9800 GTX+ duo, it was able to outmuscle the GeForce GTX 280 by a similar margin. Here the Radeon HD 4870 X2 delivered exactly the same performance as a pair of Radeon HD 4870's in Crossfire mode.
